Our Past Winners
2008
Dot's Will by Scott Simpson (NS):
Reverend Douglas Hitchens is anything but a model minister - as devoted to the bottle as much as the bible, to singles bars as much as the sacrament. It’s time he preached somewhere less... high profile.
Lakeland, Cape Breton is the very definition of a small town - perfect for a fresh start... Or is it? A large inheritance has been left to Douglas’ new church and the congregation can’t decide what to do with it. Soon infighting turns to all-out war. And Douglas is left to determine if this is God’s idea of a cruel joke, or the path to salvation.
2007
Pot of Gold by Drew Hagen (NS):
Doug Davidson and his wife Penelope are living paycheck to paycheck, expecting their second child, when he suddenly loses his job down at the chocolate factory in Dartmouth. With their life is thrown into turmoil, Doug is convinced by his crazy buddy Lyle McKelvey to take a wild road trip across the country to the promise of a lucrative job in the Alberta oil fields. Doug and Lyle quickly find that the streets of gold are actually paved with broken dreams as they run into dubious local characters hell bent on their destruction.
