About

The Atlantic Film Festival Association (AFFA) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting and building a strong film industry in Atlantic Canada and presenting the best films from this region and around the world to our community. Under the umbrella of the AFFA, there are four main entities: The Atlantic Film Festival, Strategic Partners co-production conference, ViewFinders: International Film Festival for Youth and alFresco filmFesto our outdoor summer film series.

Located in coastal Halifax, Nova Scotia, The Atlantic Film Festival (September 13-22, 2007) is a ten-day celebration of film and video from the Atlantic Provinces, Canada and around the world. Known for its warm and festive atmosphere, the Festival is committed to screening an inspiring and engaging collection of films and videos from Canada and the world. The AFF is now considered one of the top four film festivals in Canada.

As the regional film and television industry continues to flourish, the Atlantic Film Festival plays a strategic role as the leading forum for film and video in Atlantic Canada. Internationally, the Festival continues to develop its status as a gateway to the North American market. The Inspired Industry Sessions is a presentation of industry panels, discussions, master class, keynote addresses, luncheons and one-on-one meeting opportunities.

Strategic Partners (September 14-16, 2007) is Canada's first-ever international co-production conference. Both programs form the base of the Festival's efforts to encourage filmmakers and other professionals from around the world to explore issues relevant to the film and television industry.

In 2001, the Festival started alFresco filmFesto, our outdoor summer film series on the Halifax waterfront. alFresco has captured the attention of the Halifax community becoming one of the most anticipated summer events and drawing hundreds of movie fans for each screening.

In the spring of 2002, the Festival launched the ViewFinders: International Film Festival for Youth (April 24-28, 2007). A five-day event in April, ViewFinders features screenings, workshops, panels and a ViewFinders Movie Challenge all geared towards school-aged kids, their teachers and families.
