The 11th annual alFresco filmFesto presents "Summer of Murray", July 22 - August 26

(Halifax, NS) -- Produced by the Atlantic Film Festival, the 11th annual alFresco filmFesto, a free outdoor summer film series, presents "Summer of Murray." Paying tribute to actor and comedian, Bill Murray six fantastic films will be shown on Fridays, from July 22 to August 26, on the Halifax Waterfront.

 

The schedule for "Summer of Murray", projected on a 30-foot inflatable screen at the end of the Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk (near the Halifax Seaport Farmer's Market), is as follows:

 

Friday, July 22: Meatballs, 1979 - (Rated PG)

Friday July 29: Caddyshack, 1980 - (Rated PG 14)

Friday, August 5: Ghostbusters, 1984 - (Rated PG)

Friday, August 12: What About Bob? 1991 - (Rated PG)

Friday, August 19: Groundhog Day, 1993 - (Rated PG)

Friday, August 26: Rushmore, 1998 - (Rated PG 14)

In the spirit of all things fun, we determined that a focus on Bill Murray was the perfect fit for our audiences," said Lia Rinaldo, Festival Director, Atlantic Film Festival. "His films span many decades and genres with true fans in every age category. He is an icon, an indie hero and the ultimate ghostbuster."

 

"As a lifetime fan of Bill Murray, I can't think of a better way to spend a summer than enjoying his films every Friday on the waterfront," said Mark Flindall, Programming Coordinator, Atlantic Film Festival. "The only thing missing right now is Bill himself, and believe me we're working on it."

Gates open at 8 p.m. and screenings start at 9 p.m. or at dusk. In the case of rain, films will screen the following evening. Please check for rain date updates at: http://www.atlanticfilm.com/alfresco/.

 

alFresco-goers are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs for comfort. Concessions will be available on site. At each screening, attendees will have chance to win great prizes and enter a draw to win a Grand Prize. A cash donation of $5 per person is welcome.

 

In addition to "Summer of Murray", alFresco filmFesto will also present two other films this summer. The first is How to Train Your Dragon (Rated PG) on Wednesday, June 29th at Kinsmen Park as part of Sackville Patriot Days. The film will begin at dusk. The second film, Despicable Me (Rated PG), will screen on Sunday, July 3rd (9:30 p.m.) at DeWolf Park as part of Bedford Days. Admission for both films is free.
