(Halifax, NS) -- The 8th annual Music & Image Conference, a component of a year-round partnership between the Atlantic Film Festival and the East Coast Music Association, announces the program for its four-day conference in Halifax, Sept. 15-18 as part of the 31st Atlantic Film Festival (Sept. 15-24).

The Music & Image Conference, through panels, workshops, one-on-one meetings, round-table discussions and showcases, provides important opportunities for Atlantic Canadian musicians and industry professionals to learn from and engage international buyers of music in the film, TV, marketing and new media industries.  These buyers working on independent film or TV projects as well as hit shows, blockbuster films and national ad campaigns will be available to share their knowledge and meet with artists and filmmakers throughout the conference.

“We currently have 29 confirmed international buyers attending the conference which is up 12 from last year,” said Andrea Dawson Thomas, director of operations for the Atlantic Film Festival. “These buyers are coming from New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and the United Kingdom and represent shows like “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Private Practice”, “Californication”, “Modern Family”, “Brothers & Sisters”, “Republic of Doyle”, “Flashpoint” and last year's Oscar-winning film, The Social Network.  This conferences holds some promising opportunities for all participating musicians and filmmakers.”

Some of the hot topics for this year’s conference include music publishing, licensing music for film, branding, as well as preparing for and planning music for your film.  There will be a Master Class showcasing the various aspects of the composer and director relationship when it comes to scoring music in film.  Master Class participants will walk through the process of creating an original film score.  In addition, the 10 X 10 music video program offers ten Atlantic Canadian filmmakers and ten Atlantic Canadian musicians, the chance to work together, create a music video and see one team emerge with the RBC 10 X 10 Emerging Artist Award ($5,000 cash split between filmmaker and musician). Once selected to participate in this program, artists and filmmakers of all levels learn the fundamentals of contemporary music video-making as well as development of pre-existing skills, from the evolution of the band’s visual concept to the final edit of the video.
