Bob Hunka - Criterion Music, Music Supervisor
Bob Hunka has spent his entire professional career in the music business. He was born when 78's were still being sold and he remembers
"record players" that had three different speeds and used two different needles to play 78's, 45's and LPs. He can actually remember
buying records and celebrating his 33 1/3 birthday.
His music career has spanned 45's; LP's; reel-to-reel tape; 8-tracks; cassettes; mini-discs; laser discs; CDs; DVDs; High-Def; BluRay;
mp3s and wav-files. After graduating from the University of Alberta with a questionably useful degree in Canadian Political History His
diverse resume has including managing a symphony orchestra; a mobile recording studio; an independent record production company; an indie
record label and music publishing companies. He subsequently worked in the music departments of two indie film studios and enjoyed the
corporate life for 15 years as head of music at Sony Television until someone at the company discovered his Sell-by date.
At Sony he was the Executive Music Producer of the two "Songs From Dawson's Creek" Soundtrack CDs and was instrumental in the release of the
soundtrack CD's for "Party of Five", "Mad About You", "Days of Our Lives" and "The Young and The Restless". He also directed the pre-game
ceremonies at the 1989 NHL All-Star Game. Bob is a prairie boy by birth and has lived in Edmonton; Vancouver (for a moment); Toronto;
Nashville and Los Angeles. He has also loved the Maritimes since he first met Anne Murray's legendary record producer, Brian Ahern, and was
the lone western Canadian in Anne Murray's Maritime Mafia until he and Brian split to the United States seeking bigger fish in bigger ponds.
Bob lives his wife and their daughter, Marlee Anna, in Los Angeles where he represents SOCAN and provides independent consulting services to
music industry clients including New Zealand Trade & Enterprise and where he might one day become a Music Historian.
