FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about SP

Can more than one member of a company attend the event?

Yes. There is a maximum of two Delegates per company. The second Delegate from the same company can register for a reduced registration of $400 CAD (plus 15% tax = $460.00 CAD). Registration for a single Delegate is $525 CAD (plus 15% tax = $603.75 CAD)

Can I attend without a project?

Yes. Priority is given though to producers with projects and senior production companies without projects. If you intend to apply without a project, please tell us specifically what you are hoping to achieve in attending SP so that we can assist you in reaching your goals.

How are projects/production companies selected?

An internal selection committee reviews each application to consider the level of co-production experience of the producer/production company applying, the creative and commercial merits of the projects, the amount of financing attached, the co-production possibilities, as well as the number of Delegates with compatible objectives.

Can a project be submitted to SP more than once?

We recognize that projects often come together over years, and that many debut at SP in their early stages. We also realize that a film, TV or multiplatform project can potentially still benefit from Strategic Partners if it is accepted a second year. If support information indicates that a project has moved forward significantly since it was previously included in SP it may be accepted again based on the selection guidelines (noted in the previous question).

Why are animation projects not included in SP?

Given the size of SP (a maximum of 200 Delegates), we do not feel that it is possible to serve all genres effectively. Most animation broadcasters and production companies work exclusively in this area, whereas many of the broadcasters and producers who participate in film and television, live action and documentaries are involved in more than one genre. For this reason we do not feel that we can serve animation projects effectively.

When do applicants find out whether or not if they have been selected?

Selected Delegates will be notified via email in late July.

Is simultaneous translation available at Strategic Partners?

Budget constraints do not allow for the provision of simultaneous translation services. All formal events at SP will be presented in English only.

When do Delegates receive their Strategic Partners Catalogues?

A password and link to the online SP Catalogue is emailed to every Delegate in late August. A hard copy is available for every Delegate upon registration in Halifax.

Are my meeting choices guaranteed?

SP will do everything it can to set up your top meeting choices. However, high demand for meetings with particular Delegates may require that SP will have to move to 'alternate' names on your list, so please be sure to send your list in order of priority.

When will I receive my meeting schedule?

Individual meeting schedules are provided when you register at SP in Halifax. Any adjustment/changes to the schedule will then be made on site directly with the other party. As the event is intimate, it is easy to find the person you want to meet with, to change times or to arrange for another meeting.

Can Delegates pre-book meetings with Delegates without going through SP?

Please do not book meetings during the 1-2-1 time slots in advance of your arrival. This avoids scheduling conflicts. The 1-2-1 time slots are indicated on the overall SP schedule. Priority is given to all meetings booked by SP during these specific times.

What does SP registration include?

Registration provides Delegates with the following:

  • Access to all market events including 1-2-1 meetings, panels, keynotes, broadcaster and provincial buzz sessions
  • Continental breakfasts each day
  • Lunches each day, including the Academy Luncheon
  • The Film Nova Scotia Lobster Dinner by the Sea held at the historic St. Mary's Boat Club
  • Access to Atlantic Film Festival screenings, parties and networking events during SP

Do SP Delegates need to register separately for the Atlantic Film Festival?

You do not have to register for the Atlantic Film Festival during Strategic Partners on opening weekend of the Festival, as your Delegate badge gives you access to all AFF activities, first come, first served. After SP, reduced Festival rates will be available through the AFF Registration on site.

Am I required to attend the entire SP event?

Although it is not always possible, all Delegates are encouraged to attend all three days to ensure that their requested meetings can be scheduled with all other parties. Less time at SP, means less time for 1-2-1 meetings and less access to some of the key players.

Can a friend, partner, or an interested associate accompany me to Strategic Partners events?

Strategic Partners has a Partner Pass available for friends, partners, or associates of our Delegates to purchase at a price of $200 + HST. These passes provide access to galas, breakfasts, screenings, receptions and the Lobster Dinner. Tickets to keynote speakers, panels, lunches, and the Academy Lunch are available separately.
