For Sponsors
The Atlantic Film Festival Association (AFFA) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting and building a strong film industry in Atlantic Canada and presenting the best films from this region and around the world to our community. Under the umbrella of the AFFA, there are four main entities: The Atlantic Film Festival, Strategic Partners Canada's premier international co-production market, ViewFinders: International Film Festival for Youth and alFresco filmFesto an outdoor summer film series.
28th Atlantic Film Festival, September 11-20, 2008
The 28th Atlantic Film Festival will be the must-attend event of the calendar year. The galas, the parties, the audiences: When you have over 30,000 attendees, including 1000+ delegates, the networking opportunities are endless.
Long considered one of the top film festivals in the country, the Atlantic Film Festival is 10 action-packed days of sold-out screenings, industry panels and events, receptions, special presentations, award ceremonies, golf tournaments and the most dizzying array of canapés you can imagine.
ViewFinders International Film Festival for Youth, April 22-26, 2008
Celebrating its 7th anniversary in 2008, ViewFinders is the only youth film festival in Atlantic Canada. It includes a comprehensive school program, evening and weekend screenings, movie- and animation-making competitions and an Educator Pack for teachers to implement related lesson plans—all for youth ages 3-18. There are also over 40 hands-on workshops for our region’s budding directors, writers, actors and animators, not to mention films from around the world geared toward youth, with a special selection of films made by young filmmakers.
Engaging. Educating. Entertaining. ViewFinders works. Over the past seven years, we have seen our ViewFinders youth make movies, go on to university to study film, or come back to the Festival to volunteer their own time and talent.
Strategic Partners, September 12-14, 2008
Strategic Partners is one of the world’s premier co-production markets and it’s held right here in Halifax. It facilitates collaboration on and investment in international and inter-provincial film and television co-productions by sending out in advance the invaluable Strategic Partners Catalogue, which features participants’ company profiles and projects. 200 key industry players—producers, investors, sales agents, broadcasters and distributors—then converge on the city for over 800 pre-scheduled meetings and countless ad hoc one-on-ones.
8th alFresco filmFesto, Summertime 2008
Pop-culture hits, musical sing-a-longs, the classics. It doesn’t get any better than alFresco filmFesto, our outdoor film series held at Tall Ships Quay on the Halifax Waterfront. The smell of popcorn permeates the starry skies as films are shown on a 30’x25’ screen just metres from the boardwalk. Picture a drive-in…for sailboats.
Check out this year’s soon-to-be-announced line-up to consider your own creative marketing plans for an entirely captivated audience.
Festival-in-a-Van
We’re hitting the road! Festival-in-a-Van is an exciting new initiative introducing regional audiences to some of the fantastic films and workshops offered by the Atlantic Film Festival Association. From youth to adult programming, we can provide more opportunities for Atlantic Canadians to explore and create their own worlds of visual storytelling, in addition to entertaining audiences young and old alike.
To bring Festival-in-a-Van to your local school or community, we can custom design a program geared to both specific age groups and community issues.
