Strategic Partners 2016 switches to project-based slate

Presented by the Atlantic Film Festival, Strategic Partners 2016, the co-production and co-financing market known globally for its ease and effectiveness, is raising the bar for its 19th edition.
Taking place Sept. 15-17 in Halifax, Nova Scotia immediately following TIFF, the event is switching to a project-based slate, a move expected to attract an even stronger line-up of projects, producers and financiers. Strategic Partners 2016 will include 50 producers from around the globe, representing a ‘best-in-class’ roster of officially selected feature film and television projects. It will play host to an international senior-level delegation of financiers, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents and funding agencies, all looking to invest.
“As we ramp up for its 19th anniversary, we’ve been looking at ways of refreshing and enhancing the market, and we believe moving to a project-focused event, rather than a producer-first, project-second focus, will result in more projects going into production due to their participation,” says Program Manager Laura Mackenzie.
“Although it’s not required to be selected, we’ll be giving priority to producers whose projects have an available script, have financing attached and are suitable to be co-produced / co-financed between two or more countries. It’s an established format for forging new and creative business partnerships.”

This year’s Strategic Partners will highlight the Nordic region as well as the United States. The event typically includes delegates from 20+ countries.
Mackenzie will be stationed at the Canadian Pavilion in Cannes for the Film Festival, May 11-20 to meet prospective delegates, answer questions about Strategic Partners and host the Producers Network reception on behalf of Telefilm Canada and the Canada Pavilion Partners.
