How do I become an AIFF volunteer?

If you’d like to volunteer with AIFF, fill out an application here.

Your answers will help us get a sense of who you are, what experience or interests you have, and what sort of volunteer roles you might be interested in with AIFF.

After we receive your volunteer application, we’ll process it and let you know if you’ve been accepted in our volunteer program.

How do I sign up for volunteer shifts?

Once we’ve accepted your application to be a AIFF volunteer, you’ll have access to our volunteer database, Better Impact. We’ll send you emails to let you know when volunteer opportunities are available, and you can sign up for shifts through the database. Shifts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Typically, we’ll post volunteer opportunities between 1 week and 1 month in advance of events.

What are the requirements to volunteer?

Volunteers must be 19 years of age or older, customer service-oriented, friendly, and reliable.

What events/activities does AIFF need volunteers for?

AIFF presents a variety of programs that celebrate cinema in Atlantic Canada, including the Atlantic International Film Festival, AIFF Partners, AIFF Outdoor, AIFF Kids, and AIFF Makers.

We require the most volunteers during the Atlantic International Film Festival each September, but we occasionally need volunteers for other events throughout the year.

Do volunteers get training for their roles?

All AIFF volunteers—new or returning—should attend a volunteer information session every year to meet the volunteer team, find out about changes to events, and become familiar with new policies and procedures. We hold information sessions during the summer and typically start sending out signup details in July.

In addition to that, the Atlantic International Film Festival volunteers receive training in September to learn about their specific roles. For other positions, volunteers receive instructions at the start of their shift.

Time spent in information and training sessions is logged in our Better Impact database and included in your total volunteer hour count.

What are the benefits of volunteering for AIFF?

When you volunteer for AIFF, you’ll meet fellow film lovers and help support cinema in Atlantic Canada! Volunteers for the Atlantic International Film Festival in September also get movie-viewing benefits.
